The Dual-Use Quickscan has been updated to version 2.0 as of 1 July and now consists of 16 questions instead of 15, in order to better support researchers in identifying possible dual-use aspects of their work. A new, separate question on dispersion has been added, which was previously embedded in the question on transmission.

All existing questions have been revised in their wording to improve clarity, reduce overlap and make it easier for researchers to interpret potential dual-use implications. In addition, for each question the accompanying explanation has been updated and expanded with new literature examples drawn from recent scientific publications and international reports on dual-use and biosecurity. These new examples illustrate characteristic dual-use scenarios in more detail and help users relate the questions to concrete research practices, techniques and applications in the life sciences and related fields.

The core purpose of the Dual-Use Quickscan remains the same: to provide a practical and accessible tool for reflecting on the possible misuse of research, while its content now better reflects current developments and insights in biosecurity. The updated Dual-Use Quickscan (version 2.0), including the new dispersion question, revised formulations and additional literature examples, is available at www.dualusequickscan.com.
